Welcome to the Central Portal of TIB Terminology Services

A Terminology Service is a repository for terminological resources based on semantic W3C standards like the Web Ontology Language (OWL 2). The Terminology Service of TIB – Leibniz Information Centre for Science and Technology and University Library is a single-point-of-entry web-service providing access to terms from generic and domain-specific controlled vocabularies and ontologies. TIB Central Terminology Service is the backbone of all the Terminology Services presented by TIB. It hosts and stores the terminologies of various research communities mainly through this web site.

Community Terminology Services

TIB classifies terminologies with respect to certain subject classification schemas and the needs of several research communities. In this context, it maintains additional Terminology Services of the following research communities as extensions to this service:

Ontologies that belong to these research communities can also be filtered from this service. It is planned to host more community specific Terminology Services as extensions of the central service.

Functionalities

In further stages, the service will be expanded by the following functionalities:

The technical components of the service are based on open source solutions. This service is based on the Ontology Look-up Service (OLS) developed by the Samples, Phenotypes and Ontologies Team (SPOT) at the European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI). Further modules of the service could be realized by other open source tools such as GitLab, Web-Protégé, or Redmine.
