Time Series of Flow Attenuation Parameter (alpha)
In this folder there are several .MAT files with the time series (TS) of A/S and alpha_w for the curves based on Lowe et al. (2005). My curves match those of the authors within the inertia-dominated (left) and general flow areas, but not within the unidirectional flow section, as the curves all kind of converge there.
The data used for the publication (Figure 10 in Villanueva et al. 2023) comes from A_S_vs_Alpha_lambda. See below for a description of the contents of the .MAT file
I wanted to find out to what parameters the curves were sensitive, therefore, varying the parameters in the suffix of each name here, I created different datasets of TS.
RESULTS: Interestingly, the curves are not at all sensitive to the wave period T. The only change observable for longer periods is that the curve started changing values at A/S higher (above 10^0), but then followed almost the same path.
C_D barely made a change, shifting the curve at higher A/S values up or down slightly, but not separated from each other (recall that the authors used the same C_D for all experiments).
C_M controls alpha_w in the inertia limit
d did not have any effect
C_f has the most marked effect. Especially since the plant parameters dont change. Remeber that in the unidirectional limit, the ratio alpha reduces to sqrt(Ld/Ls)
If you want the curves to look exactly like those obtained by Lowe et al (2005), you need to use their plant values (changing S and d) and the varying C_f.
