Phytoplankton abundance and water variables during 2011 in a salinity gradient near A Coruña (Galicia, Spain)
Monthly observations of phytoplankton taxa along with water variables collected in surface waters of a salinity gradient near A Coruña during 2011 are provided. The gradient include stations in marine (A Coruña Bay), estuarine (Ria do Burgo) and freshwater environments (river Mero and Cecebre reservoir). Marine waters were incluenced by coastal upwelling and the river flow was controlled by freshwater discharges from the reservoir. Phytoplankton taxa were identified by microscope at the species level where possible. Water variables include: temperature, salinity, conductivity, dissolved inorganic nutrients (nitrate, nitrite, ammonium, phosphate, and silicate), chlorophylls (a, b and c), concentration of hmic and aminoacid-like dissolved substances, dissolved organic carbon and particulate carbon and nitrogen.
