Diol concentration and stable isotopes incubation experiment in Lake Geneva

Long-chain diols (LCDs) have been measured on suspended particulate matter from the surface of Lake Geneva (France/Switzerland) during a year (August 2017 to June 2018). LCD have been extracted from the filter (~20L of water) by acid and base hydrolysis followed by an aluminum oxide column (eluted with dichloromethane:methanol, 1:1, v/v). They have been quantified on a GC-MS (gas chromatograph mass spectrometer) on single ion monitoring mode. In addition, 40L of water have been incubated with 13C-labeled bicarbonate and the LCD have been extracted as above plus their 13C-ratio has been determined after silylation using a gas chromatograph isotope ratio mass spectrometer.
