Coccolith abundance and paleoproductivity estimate of sediment core LaPAS-KF02 during the last 14 kyr BP
Here, we present the percentages of coccolith species, the total absolute abundance of coccoliths, and the paleoproductivity estimate obtained from marine sediment core LaPAS-KF02 retrieved from the continental slope of the São Paulo Bight at the Brazilian continental margin (25.84°S, 45.2°W; water depth 827 m). The data presented were used to infer changes in coccolithophore assemblages and productivity in the subtropical western South Atlantic during the last 14,000 years BP. At least 300 coccoliths were counted under a polarizing microscope at 1000x magnification. Slides for coccolith abundances were prepared using the random settling technique. Coccolith assemblages were analyzed following the taxonomy described in Nannotax3 (https://www.mikrotax.org/Nannotax3/index.html).
