This data set contains (i) cold front-relative vertical cross-section composites across the WCB cloud and (ii) online WCB trajectory data centered relative to the start of fastest embedded 600 hPa ascent phase from a high-resolution nested ICON simulation.
For details on the ICON simulation, trajectory data and composites, please refer to the publication.
Data description:
The data are in netCDF format and contain the following:
- Cold front-relative vertical cross-section composites (front_rel_composites.nc)
The cold front-relative vertical cross-section composites show characteristics of the WCB cloud band and are centered at the Western edge of the WCB cloud band at relative longitude rlon=0.
The dataset contains standard meteorological variables, as well as diabatic heating ("dh_") and potential vorticity ("pvt_") rates from individual microphysical processes as well as from radiation, turbulence, convection and non-orographic and orographic gravity wave drag.
Individual processes are described in detail in the publication.
- Trajectory data are contained in the following datasets:
- wcb_trajs_basic.nc (includes standard meteorological variables)
- wcb_trajs_adh.nc (includes ascent-integrated diabatic heating rates (ADH) from various non-conservative processes)
- wcb_trajs_apv.nc (includes ascent-integrated potential vorticity rates (APV) from various non-conservative processes)
