Mipas monthly zonal mean age of air data, based on mipas sf6 retrievals, processed at kit-imk, karlsruhe

Abstract: Aus den Infrarotspektren der Jahre 2002-2012 des Satelliteninstrumentes MIPAS wurde die räumliche und zeitliche Verteilung von SF6 berechnet. Daraus wurden zonale Monatsmittelwerte des Luftalters (Age of Air) in 30 jeweils 6 Grad umfassenden Breitenbereichen bestimmt. Die Berechnung des Luftalters ist beschrieben in Haenel et al. (2015) [https://doi.org/10.5194/acp-15-13161-2015], die SF6-Daten für den vorliegenden Datensatz (Versionen V5H_SF6_21 und V5R_SF6_224/225) wurden jedoch berechnet mit den neueren Spektroskopiedaten für SF6 und CFC-11 von J.J.Harrison (2018,2020) [https://doi.org/10.5194/amt-11-5827-2018, https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jqsrt.2020.107202]. Abstract: From mid-infrared spectra, measured in 2002-2012 by the satellite-borne instrument MIPAS, the spatial and temporal distribution of SF6 was calculated. This data was converted to zonal monthly means of age of air in 30 latitude bins of 6 degree width each. The calculation of the age of air is described in Haenel et al. (2015) [https://doi.org/10.5194/acp-15-13161-2015], however, the SF6 data used for the current data set (versions V5H_SF6_21 and V5R_SF6_224/225) were calculated with more recent spectroscopic data for SF6 und CFC-11 by J.J.Harrison (2018,2020) [https://doi.org/10.5194/amt-11-5827-2018, https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jqsrt.2020.107202]. TechnicalRemarks: The data is delivered as one netCDF file. This file contains the zonal monthly mean AoA data, statistical information wrt the averaging process, spatial and temporal coordinates, and some additional information.
