Musica iasi full retrieval product extended output (processing version 3.2.1)
Abstract: IASI (Infrared Atmospheric Sounding Interferometer) is the core instrument of the currently three Metop satellites of EUMETSAT (European Organization for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites). The MUSICA IASI processing has been developed in the framework of the European Research Council project MUSICA (MUlti-platform remote Sensing of Isotopologues for investigating the Cycle of Atmospheric water). The MUSICA IASI processor performs an optimal estimation of the vertical distributions of H2O, the ratio HDO/H2O, N2O, CH4, and HNO3, and works with IASI radiances measured for cloud-free conditions in the spectral window between 1190 and 1400 cm-1. This data file encompasses the retrieval output (processing with version 3.2.1) for a total of 74 observations over the polar site of Sodankylä (67.4°N), the mid-latitudinal site of Lindenberg (52.2°N), and the tropical site of Manus Island (2.0°N). In addition to the variables of the standard output data files, this extended output data file contains detailed information on Jacobians and gain matrices. The extended output information can be used to assess the impact of different uncertainty sources, like surface emissivity or spectroscopic parameters, and different cloud types on the retrieval results, for the three different climate zones (polar, mid-latitudinal, tropical). The corresponding MUSICA IASI full retrieval product standard output is accessible via https://doi.org/10.35097/408 and the MUSICA IASI full retrieval and its extended and standard outputs are described in detail in Schneider et al. (2022, https://doi.org/10.5194/essd-14-709-2022).
