Cyanobacteria biomass mesocosm experiments in the Baltic Sea, 2006, 2009 and 2012

The biomass development of the cyanobacteria genera Aphanizomenon, Dolichospermum and Nodularia in mesocosm ("tanks") experiments was observed. The phytoplankton biomass was determined by means of an inverted microscope according to the classical UTERMÖHL method. Counts converted to biomass (wet weight) according to the method described by HELCOM (2010). The principle of the method is also described by Olenina et al. (2006).
