Snow density measurements during the ALERT2018 campaign

Snow density measurements were obtained doing classical snow pits during the ALERT2018 campaign in May 2018 over the sea ice in the Lincoln Sea. Snow pits were taken at representative locations of the floes. Measurements were done on an undisturbed shaded working wall of the snow pit by extracting 100 cm3 (6 cm x 3 cm x 5.5 cm) samples of snow using a light-weight box cutter (also known as the Taylor-LaChapelle cutter) in 3 cm vertical resolution and weighing them on a digital scale.
